Through my frustration, I found a fix!
If you’re excited for the new DLC characters coming to SFV and you’ve recently purchased or re-installed the game, you may have encountered a very frustrating error when the game prompts you to download a title update from the server. The download may start, however, just as it’s in the process of downloading the 5th item, an error message pops-up. It’s almost taunting you, mocking your attempt to play.
Unable to download the update. Error Code 2200a
However rage-inducing this message can be, especially after more than a dozen futile attempts to update the game, there is a simple solution.
- Don’t break your controller (easier said than done)
- Take a deep breath and center yourself
- Follow these simple steps if you’re on WiFi, and there are instructions below if you’re using a wired connection as well.
If you’re on WiFi, disconnect your console from the network and connect your console to your phone’s hot spot:
If you go in your phone’s settings you should have an option that says ‘hotspot’, you have to enable this. It’ll give you a password to use when connecting your console to your phone. Then, head to your console’s network settings and set up a WiFi internet connection. You’ll see your phone appear on that list. Select it and input the auto-generated password your phone gave you.
Once that’s done, you want to reconnect your console to your regular WiFi network. Open the game and re-try the update. It should work. If the download completed, but once the update is being applied to the game you get an error while trying to connect to the server, repeat the process once again.
If you have a wired connection, switch to WiFi:
It’s a bit simpler if you have access to both a wired and WiFi connection. If the game is giving you the error code while you’re wired, simply switch to WiFi and the game will download the title update. If you get an error once it’s done downloading and it’s logging you in the server – as pictured above – then switch back to your Ethernet connection and it should log you in successfully.
I’m not sure the nature of the issue, but the title update hasn’t been working correctly for a long time and it seems if you change your network settings, the game can somehow make the connection. That’s it! Hopefully, this fix solved your issue.
The game is going to have a server maintenance from 4PM to 9PM PDT August 4th, but keep an eye out for E.Honda, Lucia and Poison as they should be available for download soon.
